Welcome to NS&I

This website is a great place to find out more about us, the products we offer as well as finding answers to questions you may have.

If you would rather just ask us a question, you’ll find our contact details at the bottom of each page.

Managing your account

The easiest way to manage your money and personal information is to use our online service. You’ll need to register to use this service (you only need to do this once), when registered you’ll be able to manage your money 24/7 (online and over the phone).

If you have money in our Investment Account you’ll have to manage this by post, unless you move your money into one of our other products.

If you’ve already registered for our online and phone service since turning 16 you don’t need to do it again, just
log in.

We recommend you download and print off our registration form, fill it in and pop it in the post.

Registration form

Important information: if this is the first time you are writing to us, we need your signature witnessed. Please ask a witness (anyone over 18, just not a family member) to write the following in a covering letter, which they’ll need to sign and date ‘I certify that (your name) signed the enclosed form in my presence and that I am not a member of the same family’.

We also need your witness to print their name, address and occupation in the letter. Send the letter to us with the form.

Once we’ve registered you, we’ll post you an NS&I number and password (separately for security). When you get them just log in (or call us) to manage your money.

Why do we recommend you register for your online and phone service by post? See Frequently asked questions.

Other useful information

Some of the information the form asks for will be on statements or correspondence we sent to the person who was managing your account(s) for you (normally your mum, dad or the person who looks after you).

If you can’t get this information it’s okay, see Frequently asked questions.

If we need any more information after receiving your completed form, we will write to you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find out the details of my NS&I account(s)?

If you know you’re an NS&I customer but don’t know what account(s) you have or who to ask for this information, then you can write and ask us for your account details.

Write to us
  • Why have you written to me rather than my parent / guardian?

As outlined in our terms and conditions, when you turned 16 management of your account(s) switched from your nominated parent or legal guardian to you.

Under The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), which came into force in the UK on 25 May 2018, we are required to let our customers know how we use their information. That is why you, as an NS&I customer, received a letter and our Privacy notice.

    Our Privacy notice
  • Why do you recommend I register for your online and phone service by post?

We do have an online registration process, however during this process we confirm your identity by asking you questions based on information held by Equifax, a credit reference agency (answering them has no effect on your credit rating and we do not store the questions or answers).

For us to be able to ask you these questions (and you to be able to use the online process) you would need to have accounts or investments in your name with banks and building societies other than NS&I.

  • Can I open an NS&I account using money from an existing NS&I account?

Yes, you can switch money into a new account that is on general sale.

    How to switch

Important information: if this is the first time you are writing to us, we need your signature witnessed. Please ask a witness (anyone over 18, just not a family member) to write the following in a covering letter, which they’ll need to sign and date ‘I certify that (your name) signed the enclosed form in my presence and that I am not a member of the same family’.

We also need your witness to print their name, address and occupation in the letter. Send the letter to us with the form.

  • Why do you need me to get my signature witnessed?

For your security, we can’t disclose or change personal information without the account holder’s signature. As you are over 16 and the investment was made for you when you were a child, we probably don’t have your signature on our records, so we need your signature witnessed.
