Looking after your account

The easiest way to manage your money and personal info is with our online service.

You’ll need to complete a registration form and send it to us first. This is because we need someone to witness your signature as proof of identity.

Once we have this, you’ll be able to manage your accounts online (except for Investment Account, which can only be managed by post).

Please ask a witness (anyone over 18, but not a family member) to write the following in a covering letter, which they’ll need to sign and date: "I certify that (your name) signed the enclosed form in my presence and that I am not a member of the same family".

We'll also need your witness to print their name, address and occupation in the same letter. Please send the letter to us with the completed form.

• How do I find my account details?

  If you know you’re an NS&I customer but don’t know which account(s) you have or who to ask for this info, you can write to us and we'll tell you your account details.

• Why did you write to me instead of my parent/guardian?

  When you turned 16, the management of your account(s) switched from your nominated parent or legal guardian to you. Under The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), which came into force in the UK on 25 May 2018, we have to let our customers know how we use their information. That's why you received a letter and our Privacy notice.

• Why do I need to register for your online service by post?

  If your investment was made for you when you were a child, we probably don’t have your signature on our records. For security, we need a copy of your signature before we can disclose or change your personal information. Registering by post lets you send us a copy of your signature, which we'll then add to your records.

  We have an online registration process, too. During it we confirm your identity by asking you questions based on information held by Equifax, a credit reference agency. (Answering them has no effect on your credit rating and we do not store the questions or answers.)

  For us to be able to ask you these questions (and you to be able to use the online process), you'll need to have accounts or investments in your name with banks and building societies other than NS&I.

• Can I open an NS&I account using money from an existing NS&I account?

  Yes, you can move your money into a new NS&I account.

  Please note: if this is the first time you're writing to us, we need your signature witnessed. • Why do I have to get my signature witnessed?

  For your security, we can’t share or change any personal information without the account holder’s signature. As you're now over 16 but the investment was made for you when you were a child, we probably don’t have your signature in our records. So we'll need your signature witnessed.

• Can I manage my savings by post?

  You can manage most accounts by post (except Junior ISA and some fixed-term accounts).

  Just download your chosen form, print it, fill it in and pop it in the post.
