Executors and Administrators

1 May 2008

When you die, the law insists that someone takes responsibility for dealing with all your worldly possessions so that they can be passed on to the right people, usually called beneficiaries.

The person or people (there can be up to four) is known as the deceased’s Personal Representative(s). In a Will they are usually named as the executors. If there is no Will they are referred to as the administrators.

Executors are appointed when the Will is written and they will have the responsibility for carrying out the deceased’s wishes in the Will and to arrange for probate.
