A changing world

15 August 2008

The world is spinning faster and faster.

Technological and social change is accelerating at a breathtaking pace. Meanwhile prices continue spiralling upwards.

That’s hard cash your children have to find if they want to live away from home.  One way or another it’s harder than ever for them to stand on their own two feet.  Hopefully your grown-up child will have some savings they can dip into at this time.

It’s all a far cry from the days when grants which, as many parents will recall, was money which didn’t have to be re-paid and was seen as a right not an indulgence.

Today, those deciding to go to university can no longer rely on a grant to cushion the cost of living. Fees must be paid for and living expenses managed. It’s a mighty learning curve. Students today can face the prospect of leaving college with a debt burden in excess of £17,000*.
