Methodology
The Quarterly Savings Survey is an omnibus research survey conducted for NS&I by TNS, undertaken for the first time in September 2004. Each month approximately 1000 GB adults aged 16+ are surveyed. The figures for each of the three months are used to produce the quarterly figures. The sample has been weighted to represent the adult population of Great Britain.
Each month the survey measures the following:
Savings Tracker
The savings behaviour of people across Britain – how much they are saving, their ideal savings targets, their savings objectives, their total amount of savings and importantly, whether average savings per head are increasing or decreasing. The results can be provided in pounds and pence or as a percentage of income.
Life affordability
The Quarterly Savings Survey examines a life affordability subject each quarter. These have included the following:
- The length of time taken for first time buyer’s to save a 5% deposit
- Financial education for children
- Treading a fine line between debit and debt
- Propensity to Save Index
- The likelihood of people across Britain to save more or less in the next three months
