Press releaseI'M LOVING ERNIE INSTEAD05 November 2004Aquarians, who include pop star Robbie Williams, have side-stepped Cancerians to become the luckiest zodiac sign this year, according to National Savings and Investments (NS&I). Recent research has revealed that people born under the sign of Aquarius are luckier than any other zodiac sign when it comes to winning Premium Bond prizes in 2004. (See Notes to Editors)
Many people have a charm they consider brings them good fortune. While there’s no substitute for well-planned finances, how many people consider that the time and date they were born might have an influence on their financial well-being? Faithful Aquarians found their loyalty paid off in last month’s draw, as they topped the list of lucky star signs – Cancer was top of the list in October 2003. As a group, Aquarians scoop around one Premium Bond prize in every seven of the thousands given away and collectively won around £112,000 more than the next luckiest star sign. Cancer, last year’s luckiest, has moved down the table but the sign famous for being shrewd still scoops around one in ten prizes. Party animal Geminis have another reason to celebrate as the second luckiest (along with passionate Arians and creative Virgoans), with ERNIE, the Premium Bond prize machine, awarding them one in every nine Premium Bond prizes, worth just over £615,000. That kind of luck, combined with their outgoing nature, bodes well for friends and family who stand to be treated to meals out, new clothes or perhaps even a holiday with the winnings. Fiery Sagittarians are still not reaping the rewards of being ruled by the planet of luck, Jupiter, as they are again amongst those at the bottom in the luck stakes. With ERNIE awarding them only one prize in every 50, it seems that Jupiter’s influence over abundance, expansion and growth is failing to shape the state of their finances. Sally Swait, Premium Bond guru, says, “ERNIE is a charismatic Gemini just like Anna Kournikova, and is capable of generating just as much excitement while serving up a few more winners. Each month ERNIE charms over 1 million people born under all the signs of the zodiac by sending them a Premium Bond prize worth anything from £50 to the £1 million jackpot. “While many people believe their star sign affects their luck, regardless of your birth date, Premium Bonds offer the same chance of excitement and the chance of tax-free returns. And win or not, you always retain your original investment”. Ends Notes to Editors The research is based on the analysis of Premium Bond prizes £500+ (not including the £1 million jackpot) drawn in October 2004 and awarded to holders who started their Premium Bond holding during 2004 and for whom it was possible to attribute star signs. The results are scaled-up to reflect the total number of Premium Bond holders.
