NATIONAL SAVINGS AND INVESTMENTS TO PUBLISH ANNUAL RESULTS ON 15 SEPTEMBER 2004

NS&I will announce

• Its contribution to net financing for government and details of significant growth in its balance of funds as at 31 March 2004
• Ambitious plans to raise 50% more funds for government by end March 2008
• Record levels of total funds invested
• An increase in gross sales of its savings and investments compared to 2002-03
• Further savings to the taxpayer created by NS&I’s contribution to reducing the cost of government borrowing now and in the future (known as ‘value added’)

NS&I is one of the UK’s largest financial providers, with 30 million customers and more than £60 billion invested.  NS&I’s products are 100% secure because they are backed by HM Treasury.  Its total balance of funds represents almost 18% of the national debt.
