I can’t quite believe it’s true; we are just so excited by it! I will try and save some of it, but think we will have to treat ourselves to something special to celebrate something so life changing.” In Cardiff almost 120,000 people hold Premium Bonds worth nearly £170,000,000. There are 2,871 unclaimed Premium Bond prizes in total worth approximately £165,000. The second winner, a male from Northamptonshire who also wishes to remain anonymous, was amazed by his win, saying, “I never imagined I might win such a big prize. This is just such a surprise and will make a huge difference to my life – I will be able to help my children and grandchildren.” In Northamptonshire over 230,000 people hold Premium Bonds which are worth approximately £345,000,000. 3,668 prizes remain unclaimed, with a value of over £210,000. In November’s draw ERNIE paid out over 1.5 million prizes, together amounting to more than £89 million in value. There were 37,488,963,032 eligible Bond numbers in the draw. Premium Bond facts The current Premium Bonds prize fund rate is 2.85% tax-free2. The current odds of each £1 Bond number winning any prize are 24,000 to 1, so with average luck an investor with £30,000 in Premium Bonds could win 15 tax-free prizes a year. Currently 23 million people have a total of over £36 billion invested in Premium Bonds. Premium Bonds can be bought online at www.nsandi.com, by telephone on 0500 007 0075, by post and over the counter at Post Office® branches, and brochures can be picked up in WHSmith in 400 of its High Street stores and 155 of its travel stores. Like all NS&I products, Premium Bonds offer investors 100% capital security, backed by HM Treasury, as well as the sense of fun that comes from potentially winning tax-free prizes. Since the first Premium Bonds prize draw in 1957 over 182 million tax–free prizes worth £11.7 billion have been paid out. Prizes range from £50 to £1 million. There are currently over 550,000 unclaimed Premium Bond prizes, worth over £32 million. There is no time limit for claiming prizes.
