LUCKIEST NAMES IN UK REVEAL BOYS ON TOP

Getting ahead in the luck stakes these days could all be down to having the right name.   And after two consecutive years at the top, the girls’ luck has finally run out as Matthew replaces Hannah to take the title of the luckiest name in the UK, according to researchı on Premium Bond winners by National Savings and Investments (NS&I).

After being down on their luck for the past two years - failing to make the top 10 in 2003 and only managing to secure four places last year – boys’ have finally struck it lucky with Matthew, Adam and Daniel accounting for the three luckiest names at winning top Premium Bond prizes over the past twelve months.

Matthew, derived from the Hebrew meaning ‘God’s gift’, jumped 52 places to take top spot and Adam, a new entry, stormed straight into second place.

Despite missing out on a hat trick, girls’ names still dominate the league, securing seven out of the top ten places and 90 of the total list of luckiest names for Premium Bond wins. Claire and Caroline topped the list of lucky female names in fourth and fifth place.

Jack and Emily may have been the most popular boys’ and girls’ names in the UK for the last two years² but they don’t appear in the top ten Premium Bond lucky name chart; Jack comes in at 20 while Emily doesn’t feature at all in the lucky name list.

Karen Jones, marketing director at NS&I said: “Over the past year certain names have been especially lucky at winning top prizes, but because the draw is random, whatever your name, anyone who invests in Premium Bonds has a chance to win any of the million plus prizes worth approximately £70 million we give away each month.”
