Press releaseNATIONAL SAVINGS AND INVESTMENTS SPONSORS ELLEN LANDSCAPE DESIGNS’ ECO-GARDEN18 May 20056 May 2005 PR/107/05 Chelsea Flower show
Garden includes Chelsea Flower Show’s first organic swimming pool National Savings and Investments (NS&I), the government-backed savings and investments provider, is proud to sponsor Ellen Landscape Designs’ ‘Moat and Castle’ Eco-garden at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show, between 24 and 28 May 2005. Unique and completely environmentally sound, the Eco-garden has been chosen as one of the main show garden entrants at this year’s show. Best of British Sustainability is key to the garden design and native plants have been given centre stage: wildflowers mingle with meadowland and a home is created for British and Irish wildlife. Old apple trees give the garden a maturity whilst the sculpted landforms evoke the essence and spirit of our natural landscape. Unique A unique feature is the natural swimming pond, bordered by plants that organically filter the water removing the need for harmful chemicals. Clean enough for swimming in, this is a first for the Chelsea Flower Show! SimpleThe garden is a simple ecological ‘cut and fill’ design. Children playing on the beach building a ‘moat and castle’ in the sand is the concept for this garden. The earth excavated from the pond is used to make the landforms of the meadows. Even the hedgerow is reclaimed from building developments. Elma Fenton, one of the landscape architects behind the garden, explains its appeal: “The beauty of this garden is its diversity: a body of water organically filtered, a sculptured landform creating garden microclimates for work, play, relaxation, sustenance and physical connection.” Paul Knight, head of sales development at National Savings and Investments (NS&I), said: “National Savings and Investments is delighted to announce its sponsorship of Ellen Landscape’s Eco-garden. The garden’s progressive design focussing on growth and protection is something we value and we are looking forward to seeing it come alive during the Chelsea Flower Show. “By sponsoring the garden we hope to raise awareness of our brand name and improvements to our service and range of savings and investments among a wider audience. Both Ellen Landscape Designs and NS&I place great importance on sustainable, innovative and straightforward solutions which makes this a natural partnership.” Who are National Savings and Investments?
