Press releaseNATIONAL SAVINGS AND INVESTMENTS APPOINTS OMD UK AND PTARMIGAN MEDIA LTD24 April 2003National Savings and Investments (NS&I), the government-backed savings provider, has today announced the appointment of OMD UK and Ptarmigan Media Limited to provide its media strategy, planning and buying services for one year with option to extend to five years. This follows a statutory review of NS&I's marketing and media agencies. OMD UK has been re-appointed and will manage the majority of the activity, enabling NS&I to maintain its high profile in mainstream press. Ptarmigan Media Limited will handle the specialist financial and trade press, enabling NS&I to increase its coverage in these specialist areas. NS&I is still considering tenders for advertising and direct marketing. An announcement will be made as soon as the final decisions have been reached. The role of NS&I is to provide cost-effective financing to the Treasury by reducing the cost to the taxpayer of government borrowing whilst offering good value to customers. It operates in the same markets as major banks and building societies in the retail financial services sector. Currently, there is £62 billion invested in NS&I by 30 million customers. Tim Mack, Head of Communications at NS&I said: "The standard of the pitches that we received were of the highest quality but OMD and Ptarmigan stood out from the rest. The challenge is to make NS&I the first port of call for people with money to save and invest and I am looking forward to working with both of them to turn this into reality." ENDS Notes to Editors1.
