Press releaseGROUNDHOG DAY BUT IT'S NO APRIL FOOL FOR ABERDEENSHIRE'S SECOND PREMIUM BOND JACKPOT WINNER01 April 2003
It's Groundhog Day for the residents of Aberdeenshire, as they wake up to find that ERNIE has picked this month's Premium Bond millionaire in their region again. It's no April fool that Aberdeenshire is home to the Premium Bond millionaire in the same region for the second consecutive month ever. This month's million pound jackpot comes to Scotland for the fourth time since National Savings and Investments introduced the monthly jackpot prize in 1994. The winner becomes ERNIE's 109th Premium Bond millionaire. Premium Bonds are Britain's best kept secret, with over 19 billion bonds owned by 23 million people entered into April's draw. Premium Bonds are a serious investment, offering the chance of tax-free returns. Each bond goes into the draw every month and, win or not, investors always retain their original investment. 138,000 residents of Aberdeenshire own £90 million of Premium Bonds, while 1.6 million Scots as a whole own £840 million of Premium Bonds. There are 2,500 unclaimed prizes in Aberdeenshire worth £150,000, and 25,801 unclaimed prizes in Scotland worth £1.5 million, including 49 prizes worth £1,000 and 138 worth £500.
