John Prout - Sales Director

John is responsible for achieving the overall sales plan for NS&I and managing the distribution channels that deliver this plan. The prime channels incorporate our key distribution partner - Post Office Ltd - telephone, internet, post and IFAs.

Activities range from day to day management to strategic development, which in recent years has seen rapid expansion of direct options around internet and telephone.  Business volumes typically involve around four million sales transactions per year, with gross sales in the last financial year of £11.2 billion.  As a director of NS&I John also has responsibility for other key initiatives as a part of the continued evolution of the organisation.

John joined NS&I in August 2003.  His career includes a long period with Prudential plc, and positions held included HR and planning director,  distribution director and more recently UK sales director.  He began his career as a marketing graduate with Kodak Ltd, and gained further experience at Rover Group and Parker Hannifin Corporation.  He has also spent two years running his own independent management consultancy.

John is a graduate of Leeds University (BSc Hons), and also holds a Diploma in Business Coaching.

On a personal basis he is married with two daughters – both of whom are now allegedly independent.  His interests include antique collecting, membership of 41 Club, and travel.  Finally he reluctantly admits to a rather irrational but long-standing passion for Plymouth Argyle Football Club.
