Events and key dates
Between November 2006 and June 2007, NS&I held a number of media events, photocalls, briefings and public exhibitions to celebrate 50 years of Premium Bonds. Details of these are listed below.
October 2006
- NS&I media team has now published "A Short History of Premium Bonds" - the journalists' definitive guide to Premium Bonds and ERNIE. To request a copy (available to journalists only), contact the NS&I media team.
31 October - 1 November
- Two-day media event at The Trafalgar hotel, Trafalgar Square, featuring visual displays showing the history of Premium Bonds. The perfect opportunity for outside broadcasts, photos and the opportunity to meet Agent Million, other people involved with the development of Premium Bonds over the years, and NS&I spokespeople. Johnny Ball, TV's favourite number expert, was also at the event.
- Customers who wanted to be in the first five £1 million jackpot draw for December 2006 must have bought their Premium Bonds by 31 October 2006 at the latest
1 November 2006
- 50 years since Premium Bonds first went on sale (public launch in Trafalgar Square on 1 November 1956).
- An outdoor photocall took place on Wednesday 1 November at 08:00, featuring a 1950s Routemaster bus, several glamourous female models dressed in 50s clothing, and a giant birthday cake! High resolution photographs are available here.
30 November 2006
- Five people across the UK received hand-delivered £1 million Premium Bond jackpot prizes.
April 2007
- Customers who wanted to be in with a chance of winning in the second five £1 million jackpot draw in June 2007 must have purchased their Premium Bonds by 31 April 2007.
1 June 2007
- 50 years since first Premium Bond prize draw.
- Photocall - Premium Bonds HQ, Marton, Blackpool. High resolution photographs are available here.
- Five more people across the UK received hand-delivered £1 million Premium Bond jackpot prizes.
