2009 Grow Your Own calendar

Welcome to the NS&I growing and savings calendar. Here you will find helpful hints and tips on how you can make both your gardening and financial efforts work better for you.

Find out when the best times are to budget for the months ahead and learn the key dates for growing, pruning and harvesting different fruit and vegetables.

As we all try to find ways to save money, growing your own fruit and vegetables is an obvious choice. This calendar will be updated every month to assist you along the way.

March

If you like to go abroad in the summer months, start saving now so that you don't suffer financial heatstroke to get away.

To help keep track of your outgoings, you may like to start a spending diary to list everything you buy over a week. An alternative might be to consider only taking out a set amount of money at the start of each week and limiting yourself to this budget.

Daylight savings - the clocks go forward one hour at the end of the month, meaning longer days. Use this as an opportunity to spend more time in the garden.

Why not get involved  - if you have any growing or savings tips to share please email them to growandsave@nsandi.com

Key date

7 March: Grow Your Own open day at RHS Gardens (Wisley, Rosemoor, Hyde Hall and Harlow Carr)
