2009 Grow Your Own calendar

Welcome to the NS&I growing and savings calendar. Here you will find helpful hints and tips on how you can make both your gardening and financial efforts work better for you.

Find out when the best times are to budget for the months ahead and learn the key dates for growing, pruning and harvesting different fruit and vegetables.

As we all try to find ways to save money, growing your own fruit and vegetables is an obvious choice. This calendar will be updated every month to assist you along the way.

December

Get into the spirit of Christmas. If you’re buying presents for friends, think about doing a secret Santa, rather than all buying presents for each other. Try creating home made gifts, jams and chutneys, from your fruits and vegetables – and remember now is the time to harvest Brussels sprouts, picking off the largest from the bottom of the stalk for Christmas dinner.

Think about 2010. Think about some savings resolutions. Did 2009 produce any unpleasant surprises – spoiled crops, running out of money or going into debt? If so, then make sure you’ve got 2010 covered.
